Life
Cited by Athenaeus and Vitruvius. An inscription found on the island of Delos records that his son Timon offered a golden wreath in 180 BC.


Work
His works are:

"Periplus": Treatise on geography and curiosities.

"Journey along the coast of Asia": Describes the journey undertaken by Drimacus, the leader of a slave rebellion in Chios, and his remarkable feats. Contains much geographical information.

"On what is admirable in Sicily": Contains information on the geography, architecture and customs of Sicily.

"On machines"
